Eco-Alpha Employee Spotlight: Laura Vary, Environmental Technician
SACRAMENTO, CA, April 15, 2020 — Laura Vary recently joined our team in 2019 after graduating from University of California at Davis. She has a degree in marine and coastal science, and has always been enthusiastic about strategies for natural resource preservation and environmental management.
Current Position: Environmental Technician

Degree: B.S. in Marine and Coastal Science
In your current position, what are your roles and responsibilities?
Laura manages the groundwater and wastewater monitoring and reporting program for the George Kristoff Water Treatment Plant. She manages all sample collections, field monitoring and environmental reporting compliance for the water plant as they continue to provide safe drinking water to the West Sacramento community and protect the beneficial properties of the Sacramento River.
What are your research interests?
Laura’s previous research experience includes projects ranging from native California wildflower trait diversity to the population dynamics of Pacific krill to the evaluation of Sonoma Coast marine protected areas. Her work has focused on understanding how humans affect wildlife and how natural environments can maintain resilience in the face of climate change.
How has your career grown since starting at Eco-Alpha?
Working at Eco-Alpha has given Laura significant connections with industry and management. She now has experience in project management, team coordination, client outreach, and the application of her scientific background to relevant problems affecting local businesses.
